Adlet (ahd-leht)

Adlet

The adlet was a bipedal canine native to woodland forests in remote temperate areas. It was distinguished from other species by its larger size and less pointed features, particularly on the ears and muzzle. Its winter fur was long, bushy, and predominately a mottled gray, though white and red also occurred. Adlets were social animals, traveling in nuclear families consisting of a mated pair, accompanied by adult offspring. These predators were feared throughout their range, with only people and more gigantic monsters posing a threat.

Adlets were one of Fabella’s best-known animals. The myth of werewolves arose out of their humanoid-like appearance, though adlets never transformed into men. They had a long history of association with people, having been despised and hunted in most farming communities because they attacked livestock. Although the fear of adlets was pervasive in many societies, most recorded attacks on people were attributed to the animals suffering from rabies.
